The story behind our mission

Bring a little piece of childhood to them.

The idea was born from a very personal experience. While KidOvation Stage founder Tsion Tekle spent a week in the ICU with her young son, Cruz, she saw firsthand how scary, isolating—and simply boring—a hospital stay can become for a child.

She also saw children who had already been there for weeks, with some facing months away from the everyday experiences that make childhood feel like childhood.

That sparked an idea: What if we could bring a little piece of childhood to them?

Imagination. Animation. Adventure.

For four weeks, they’re not just patients.
They’re superheroes.

Each child will create a superhero inspired by themselves—their personality, their imagination, their story and, of course, their superpowers.

With KidOvation Stage educators and animation professionals guiding them, our Little Heroes will:

Choose their name, powers, costume and adventure.

Learn to animate

Explore animation and digital storytelling.

Bring a story to life

Make a mini animated cartoon starring their superhero.

Receive technology and creative materials to participate.

Most importantly, they’ll have something exciting waiting for them each week that has absolutely nothing to do with being sick.

We have identified 14 children ages 3–10 experiencing extended hospital stays who can participate in our inaugural four-week series.

Your $350 sponsorship provides one Little Hero with their four-week creative experience, technology, animation materials, costume and instruction.

And your impact goes even further.

Through support from DreamWorks, eligible contributions to this initiative will be matched—helping us multiply the impact of every sponsorship.
